On 1 July Mexico will hold a general election. This blog is live in the country covering the vote
The PRI are favourites to land the presidency on Sunday with Enrique Peña Nieto but this is a general election and there are other parties jockeying for other posts up for grabs across the nation.
hi ross! glad to hear your back in the second mother land. Here as well it is Red and green mania… looks like manuel “el guero” velasco is set to win a as a 70% favourite in the opinion polls… taking with him a handful of recycled PRI and Partido Verde (anything but green) municipal presidents, deputies and senators with him, and maybe even bumping up the PRI vote with most of the rural population in chiapas, which makes up 50% of the 4 million people living here. However in one municipality the green party and the PRD had a disagreement which ended in some deaths… and the main highway from Tuxtla to San cristobal, which is also the main route to guatemala was blocked. Not looking forward to next week with likely road blockages and protests… and like a friend says, if the PRI wins,, let the Mayan 2012 ending come earlier!!
